Abstract:
The aimof this workis to study probability markers in modern English, including nominative and pragmatic aspects.To achieve this goal the following objectiveswere set:1) to determine the theoretical foundations of the study of modality and modal words in linguistics;2) to characterize the linguistic modality andmeans of its expression;3) to explore the issue of probability adverbs in English-language research;4) to single out the nominative aspect of modal words in modern English;5) to consider modal words as units of nomination and semantic types of modal words;6) to determine the communicative and pragmatic characteristics of modal words;7) to analyze modal probability markers as a means of expressing modality in dialogic speech;8) to describe pragmatic probabilitymarkers in monologue texts
