Abstract:
he purposeof the Qualification Paper is to study characteristic features of misunderstanding as a type of infelicitous communication in general andcommunicative failuresin particular. The objectof the Paper is the misunderstanding as a speech phenomenonin Modern English dialogical discourse.The subjectof the Paper is pragmatic and functional characteristics of misunderstanding in Modern English dialogical discourse.To achieve this goal,we need to solve the following tasks:-analyze the concept of speechin modern linguistics;-explain the problem of understanding and misunderstanding in speechdiscourse;-analyze strategies and tactics used for overcoming the communicative misunderstanding in the English speech;-analyze partialmisunderstandingin dialogicaldiscourse;-point out and analyze speech acts of expressingmisunderstanding.
