dc.description.abstract	The aim of the research is to study compounding as a way of forming vocabulary in the Old and Middle English periods. The research objectives are the following: - to consider the notion of compounding; - to determine the ways of forming lexemes in English; - to select the research material by systematic sampling (every 15th page) from the dictionaries of the two periods under study; - to conduct a quantitative analysis of the material obtained as a result of systematic sampling and to identify the main features of compounding as a way of forming vocabulary in the Old and Middle English periods.	en_US
