Abstract:
The paper considers the problem of interpretation of the modality category in modern linguistics. It was found that the modality category is differentiated into objective and subjective. Particular attention is paid to the issue of means of expressing the functional aspect of modality and the main ways of expressing the modal relationship between the subject of the action and the action in the English language are modal verbs, which are part of the compound verbal modal predicate and reflect the speaker's attitude to the action of the sentence. Attention was also paid to lexical, grammatical, lexical-grammatical, some special syntactic constructions, punctuation, graphic, as well as the convergence of means for realizing the entire variety of modal meanings
