Functions of irreverent images in English Poetry

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to identify the peculiarities of the use of irreverent images in English poetry. To achieve the goal, the following tasks were set: 1. To consider modern approaches to defining the concept of “image”; 2. To highlight the typology of means of the use of irreverent images in English poetry; 3. To single out the lexical-semantic features of the use of irreverent images in English poetry; 4. To characterize the structural and grammatical features of the use of irreverent images in English poetry. The practical significance of the conducted research is that the obtained results can be used in further research on stylistics, lexicology, and cultural studies.
