Abstract:
The aim of the master’s qualification paper is to represent phrasal verbs used in religious discourse from the cognitive linguistics perspective in all possible variations, including the detailed study of the particle and phrasal verb as a whole unit. The work is based on the hypothesis that the command made by King James VI and I for the language to be as simple as it was possible for the translation of the Bible had influenced the choice of phrasal verbs by translators because, from a cognitive perspective, they can be of different types ranging from literal to idiomatic and could precisely depict the religious concepts to convey them clearly to people who were using phrasal verbs in their
everyday speech.
