Abstract:
In this term paper, the focus is on the use of expressive syntax in modern American talk shows, with a specific focus on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Above all, the paper examines how Jimmy Fallon and his guests use syntactic language means to convey their thoughts, feelings, and identities, and how this use of expressive syntax influences the show's overall style and tone. Through a qualitative emotion analysis of transcripts and recordings of the show, some patterns and themes in the use of expressive syntax are explored.This term paper aims to contribute to the understanding of the role of emotional language in modern American talk shows, and the ways in which
language can be used to convey emotions and attitudes in entertainment media. By
examining specific linguistic features of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, I hope to shed light on the broader linguistic significance of this popular television program.
