Abstract

The aim of the paper is to identify the main meanings and functions of modal verbs and how they are used in different situations. To achieve this goal, the following tasks were set: 1. To identify modal verbs in modern English; 2. To analyse their semantic characteristics and functions; 3. Use modal verbs in different contexts.
