Peculiarities of the translation into Ukrainian of the English vocabulary of military law (based on the material of legal literature)

Abstract

This term paper is focused on the study of lexical units of military law in translation studies and aid to understand the English vocabulary of military law and its place in the lexical system of the English language. This topic’s theoretical background requires exploring the various sources and origins of the vocabulary, such as legislation, international agreements, and historical documents, as well as examining the terminology and its usage in different contexts, such as military operations, legal procedures, and political discourse. Once the vocabulary of military law has been thoroughly explored, it is possible to classify the lexical units into different categories, such as legal terms, operational terms, and political terms. This classification is important as it helps to organize the vast amount of information and provides a framework for further analysis. For example, legal terms may include terms related to jurisdiction, the rights and duties of military personnel, and the procedures for military trials, while operational terms may refer to military tactics, equipment, and strategies. Another important aim/object of the research is the examination of military discourse from the point of view of linguistics and translation. Military discourse is unique in many ways, including its level of specificity and its use of specialized terminology and jargon. As a result, translating military legal documents can be a complex and challenging task, requiring specialized knowledge and expertise.
