Abstract:
Research objective: To identify and analyze the main functions performed by idioms with “body part” components in the English language, as well as to identify the areas of their usage. In accordance with the aim of the paper, the following tasks are set:
- to define the concept of idiom and its characteristics;
- to consider the classification of idioms by structure and semantics;
- to trace the origin and etymology of idioms with body part components;
- to define the functions performed by idioms with body part components in the English language;
- to identify the main areas of usage of idioms with body part components.
